Juicy baked pork chops

Pork chops are inexpensive yet delicious, but only when they are cooked properly. If not, they can be dry and tasteless. To ensure that you have moist pork chops, you may need to use the pork chops with bone-in. The bone helps the surrounding meat stay soft and moist. The following method of baking pork chops will make your taste buds sing.

The quality of the end product will result on the quality of meat that you use. Remember that using a bone-in pork chop will result in more tender and moist meat. However, this may be a more expensive option. Go with the type of meat that is right for you and your budget. Wash the meat thoroughly in cool running water before you start seasoning or preparing it for the oven. Try to prepare this recipe a day in advance, or at least a few hours ahead.

First, you will need to make a brine. The brine consists of water and brown sugar and salt. Combine eight to ten cups of water with about 2 cups of brown sugar and 1 cup of salt. Mix thoroughly, and then add the pork chops. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for up to one day. When you are ready to use it, make sure that it comes to room temperature before placing in the oven.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. If you find that your oven is too hot, decrease the heat to 300 degrees F. Place the pork chops in a glass pan that is safe for the oven. Place a bit of olive oil on the bottom of the pan. Then, in a bowl, combine 1 1/2 T. salt, 1 1/2 T. freshly cracked black pepper, 1/2 T. paprika, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper or chili powder, and 2 T. minced garlic. Wash the pork chops again under cool running water for thirty seconds, and then rub them with the spice mixture. Place them in the glass bowl once again and put this in the oven.

The pork chops will normally take less than 1 hour to cook, though you will need a meat thermometer to check that each chop’s center reads between 160-170 degrees F. 160 degrees is for medium, while the higher end of 170 degrees is for well-done.

Once finished, take the pork chops out of the oven immediately and serve with mashed potatoes and green vegetables.
